Raw fish made out of sugar . . . sort of . . .

I'm not sure whether I was trying to convert a sushi lover to cake or a cake lover to sushi. Either way, these treats are super-easy to make! Head to the candy aisle and get creative.

Get your flashlight and your bug spray, it's Heather's birthday!

This camping-themed cake is s'mores flavor: graham-cracker cake, marshmallow and chocolate filling. The whole thing was, in fact, supposed to look like a giant melty s'more.

The traditional birthday candles were placed in the "campfire," and all the pieces were made from fondant.

Serve with your best ghost story.

Parneshia rocks 30 years, juke joint style!

In honor of the hot, sticky summer, the flavor was orange dreamsicle, with a hint of almond to bring out the orange.

Team Sled in cake!

Andy and I introduced our buddies Tyler and Julia by taking them on a terrifying sledding trip one night. It was a fateful evening: Tyler and Julia fell in looooove, we had lots of fun, and Tyler and Andy performed first aid on a teenager who sledded down a footpath and into a fence. (He went to the hospital, but he was OK, though perhaps that is not obvious from his representation in cake form.) Can we make a cake out of this little story? Oh, yes we can! The flavor is white chocolate raspberry.

There's no place like home . . .

I made this bird house cake for my mom on Mother's Day! I wanted to flavor to be very special, so I came up with my own recipe: champagne cake with white chocolate buttercream, filled with chocolate-covered strawberries.

My favorite is 28!

In honor of Andy's birthday and continuing love of video games from the eighties, I made this Super Mario Brother's birthday cake. I played a little jazz and came up with my own recipe for the cake and frosting: lavender-infused vanilla bean cake with salted-caramel frosting. And a goomba.

It's 80 degrees in Chicago in April . . .

. . . Matt, Aaron's lovely boyfriend, is in town . . . This calls for a celebration. Cake, anyone?
