There's no place like home . . .




I made this bird house cake for my mom on Mother's Day! I wanted to flavor to be very special, so I came up with my own recipe: champagne cake with white chocolate buttercream, filled with chocolate-covered strawberries.

  1. Oh! Oh oh oh! Serena, this is a masterpiece! Your best one yet! I love the use of leaves for the roof and the twigs--multicolored!--for the walls. You found a way to make them look natural, not at all uniform as you'd feared. So much texture, and the birds are a wonderful touch. There's mom. And the wonder is as great indoors (the cake's flavor and filling) as it is outdoors!

  2. I gotta tellya...that champagne-chocolaty thing was THE most incredible filling! And I'm not a cake kinda guy. Bravissimo! My only concern is...why just FOUR birdies?? Am I dead?
